all i can say is wow

Tonight, I witnessed history in a building that was built some, oh, 700-900 years ago....holy merde.

Can I remind myself again that I am in ITALIA?!?!?!?!?!?!  It's still unreal.  Especially when:

The other morning I decided to go into il centro about an hour before my class started (at 10, REAL early, haha).  One of the churches in Siena, rings its bells every hour, and I happened to walk right underneath them right at 9 o'clock when the started chiming.  Chiming isn't the right word, that invokes images of wind chimes tinkling away in a soft summer breeze.  This was more of a "enter-into-this-brick-fortress-of-the-Almighty-God-and-repent-your-sins-or-burn-in-the-hottest-depths-of-hell-for-all-eternity" type of sound.  Even the pigeons were scared.  But really, since I don't believe in God, it was more spiritual as I looked out over this ancient city and was just a witness amongst the start of the Sienese peoples' days.

Today for my "intensive" Italian class we went to "coop" which is like a Whole Foods that doesn't know it is Whole Foods crossed with a classy Fred Meyer/Target.  I've never seen so many different types of "frutti del mare" (Seafood) in my entire life.  Sharks, squid, octupus, all sorts of fish, some I couldn't name, some that were flourescent red.  Some jellyfish/squid looking thing that was covered in what looked like ink.  Also, two aisles dedicated to pasta alone, another two to different "salsa" which means sauce in Italian.  And a whole deli or two full of every type of cheese you could ever want.  Walls and shelves full of wine and Limocello, a delicioso lemon liquor.  Tastes like lemon drops.  And any kind of liquer you could ever want.  And good wine for about $3.00 a bottle.

Did I die and go to heaven?!?!  I have no idea how Italians aren't all ridiculously obese. No idea.

Still recovering from jetlag, so time to dormire.  I'll add pictures soon.

Love and miss you all like I miss vegetables (aka, MOLTO, I don't think my family eats them....procuotto must have a lot of vitamins in it or something....)

Buonanotte!
