I made it safe and sound to my new home on Via Cassia Sud, in Siena Italy. My mother is Ilaria (like Hilary) and father is Luca. I have two new little brothers, Mattia, 7 and Niccolo, 4. They are molto cute, but fudro! (cunning!) I have a roommate, Janelle, from Albany New York. Today we had our first day in Siena, and it was fabulous. First of all, I woke up and went to the living room to look out the huge windows at the Tuscan country side. Che bella!! Luca made me the strongest espresso I've ever had, but it was delicious! Janelle and I took the polichia (small bus) to the Piazza Mercato to meet with everyone else in our group. Out leader, Mike, is a LC graduate and has been living in Siena for eight years now. He is very kind. The Piazza del Campo is amazing, along with every single building in Siena. It is a UNESCO site so Siena is a really rich city and gets lots of money for keeping it "bellissima".
Last night with had "pasta con carne" and then "pollo" (chicken) and "melanza" (eggplant) wrapped around mozzarella. mmm... It's been very entertaining teaching the four of them english. Ilaria speaks "un poco" and Luca "niente" (none, I actually think he doesn't want to learn english) and listening to Mattia repeat forK (extra stress on the k) over and over again is great. Even better when they try to pronounce "Baraboo". My Italian has been getting me by alright, but it definitely needs work.
Until next time,
Buonanotte!
Sonja
